Can dogs eat chicken?

Plain cooked chicken is safe and healthy for dogs. It is an excellent source of lean protein. Avoid seasoned, fried, or chicken with bones.

Chicken is one of the best protein sources for dogs and is a common ingredient in many commercial dog foods. It provides essential amino acids, is highly digestible, and most dogs love the taste.

When feeding chicken to your dog, always cook it thoroughly — raw chicken carries risks of Salmonella and other bacteria. Boiled or baked chicken breast without skin, seasoning, or oil is the ideal preparation. Remove all bones, as cooked chicken bones can splinter and cause choking or internal injuries.

Chicken is also the go-to ingredient for a bland diet when dogs have upset stomachs. A simple mix of boiled chicken and white rice is veterinarian-recommended for digestive issues.
